A Corporate Initiative

The industrial community of Nepal urgently needed a representative body that would server as a true platform of addressing the issues that plague the Nepalese industries today. There was a need for a modern professional body with well-trained and experienced professional staff fully supported by the latest technological advancements well connected with regional and global suitable organizations such as World Economic Forum, Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), which is capable of providing useful policy inputs to the government and at the same time making sure that the same is implemented.

This organization would focus only the larger businesses who are the substantial sectoral leaders of today’s economy, in all sectors geographically as well as by nature of business, be it manufacturing, tourism, financial services, exports, infrastructure with local of foreign investments.

After much speculation in the country’s business community, the apex body of Nepalese Industrialists Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) has been put together by the captains of Nepalese Industries and Corporate Sector from April 17 th, 2000 under the President-ship of Mr. Binod K. Chaudhary. In his words, CNI is “unlike other representative bodies,” and the Confederation “will be fully responsive to the needs and sentiments of the Industrial community in Nepal and will be working with the sole purpose of creating a better Industrial environment in the country.”

CNI is an organization that works in coordination with other organizations and is stepping in the areas where the existing system has failed to look into the current scenario. CNI is raising issues like current economic situation, reforms in financial sector and streamlining of private sector’s initiation on development agenda, growth issues and industrialization based on trade-competitiveness, The organization is working along the lines of several organizations in various developing countries such as India, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, etc. and hopes to hire expertise as well as the bilateral support in development of the Confederation.

Thus,
CNI came into operation with the theme of “Talking Business, Talking Change.”
